MISSION STATEMENT

Collectively develop Mount Isa into an ideal location to conduct business through facilitation, partnerships, referrals, networking and lobbying.

CHARTER

The Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce is an incorporated association funded through a membership base and business development activities.

Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce provides quality support to business operators, stakeholders, partners and customers through an involved and informed Committee; and well trained and experienced staff. Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce provides relevant advice and assistance, to enhance Mount Isa's business development opportunities and is recognised as an influential apolitical collective voice of their members.

Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce will address identified needs by:

  • Actively promoting the services they are charged to deliver
  • Forming coalitions with various groups with similar needs and aspirations
  • Conducting relevant training and development activities to improve the capacity of its membership base
  • Strengthening networks with government, business and the community
  • Representing and advocating the interests of its members

  1. Promote continuous improvement through innovation and technology
  2. Achieve excellence in organisational planning, administration and operations
  3. Be recognised as the leading network and resource for business in the North West
  4. Establish the Chamber as the business voice on major issues within Mount Isa
  5. Support and advocate an effective Mount Isa campaign for investment attraction and livability of the region

1.Promote continuous improvement through innovation and technology

  • Action Strategy 1: To implement technology that enables the Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce to work more effectively and efficiently
  • Action Strategy 2: Investigate opportunities to partner with Internet Service Providers to provide faster broadband and local WIFI services

2.Achieve excellence in organisational planning, administration and operations

  • To create and maintain comprehensive plans and policies
  • Review comprehensive plans on a regular basis

3.Be recognised as the leading network and resource for business in the North West

  • Conduct Chamber's Annual Meeting each October
  • Publish a local Mount Isa Easy Find directory and Business guide to provide more personal contact points for members and prospective members
  • Host Mining Expo that drives customers to member businesses and allows businesses to plan for future economy-related developments
  • Develop membership packages to achieve positive net membership growth and positive retention rates each year
  • Conduct bi-monthly Networking Functions, implementing new techniques to engage members in networking that increases their profitability

4.Establish the Chamber as the business voice on major issues within Mount Isa

  • Develop and implement strategy to establish Chamber's presence and importance on local issues that relate to Chamber priorities and members interests
  • Identify stakeholder collaborations that leverage Chamber's effectiveness and provide greater benefits to Chamber members
  • Develop and implement stakeholder management plan by 31 October 2009
  • Provide for funded, proactive, and collaborative lobbying initiatives for Chamber members interests and the advancement of Mount Isa
  • Provide liaison on other boards, discussing regional priorities and agreeing on roles and responsibilities for achieving them

5.Support and advocate an effective Mount Isa campaign for investment attraction and livability of the region

  • Pursue collaborations that will add value to member's investments in Chamber and deliver greater returns socially, economically and/or environmentally
  • Develop and implement proactive and collaborative economic and social development initiatives that sustain or increase the numbers of jobs attracted to and retained throughout the Chamber's service region
  • Promote good news stories that relate to Mount Isa's lifestyle and investment and career opportunities on a local, state and national level
