COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS

Welcome to the 2010 Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce Dragon Boat Regatta in conjunction with the 2010 Xstrata Mount Isa Mines Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic. We are committed to a high standard of service and we will do everything possible to ensure that you have an enjoyable competition; however it is your responsibility to read and be familiar with the following information and abide by the conditions and regulations.

It is also your responsibility to ensure all your team members are aware of the information.

INTRODUCTION

The aim of this competition is to provide nominees with an opportunity to participate in an enjoyable, low cost, team sport at a local recreation spot.

1. COMPETITON NOMINATIONS

1.1. Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce will accept nominations from teams, groups and individuals. Nominations are to be on the prescribed forms, signed and submitted prior to the nominated close-off times and with the required waiver form. Acceptance of nominations is at the discretion of Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce and conditional on applicants completing the required nomination and waiver forms and abiding by the competition safety requirements.

1.2. Nominated competitors must be 18 years of age or older unless they are being nominated and accompanied by a parent or guardian.

1.3. Late nominations will be accepted at the discretion of Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce.

1.4. A team or individual can have its nomination withdrawn and be ejected from the competition on disciplinary grounds or failing to follow competition management directions.

1.5. Teams can consist of as many competitors as you wish.


2. TEAM NAMES

2.1. Proposed team names must be included on the nomination forms. Names deemed to be offensive or in poor taste will be rejected by competition management. If duplications occur priority will be given to the nomination received first.

3. TEAM CAPTAINS

3.1. Teams are to have a designated team captain whose responsibilities include:-

Checking for and receiving notices and advising team members of relevant information in those notices.
Ensuring-

All team members enter the required details and sign the team waiver sheet before their first race.

Ensuring all team members abide by competition regulations and safety requirements.

Checking the draw on race day.
Registering arrival on race day.
Representing players, supporters and officials in communications with competition management.
Ensuring team is prepared and ready to commence when draw requires.

Team captains are additionally responsible for:-

The conduct of all team members during the course of the game.

4. TEAM REGISTRATION

4.1. Each team member is to enter the required details on the team waiver form before racing in the competition.

4.2. Each team is required to register attendance on arrival.


5. PRE-COMPETITION MEETING/SCRUTINEERING

5.1. A pre-competition meeting will be convened by competition management to provide to team managers such information as:-

Draw for competition.
Point’s allocation to determine finals teams.
Format for finals.
System to be applied to resolve drawn games
Player eligibility for finals
Any variations to these regulations to be applied.

5.2. Scrutineering will be conducted by competition management to ensure dragon boats are eligible to compete.


6. ELIGIBILITY

6.1. Teams and individuals will not be eligible to compete unless their nominations have been accepted and approved by competition management and waiver forms submitted.

6.2. Only teams who have won their heats will be eligible to compete in the final.

6.3. If a team is unable to compete in a heat or the final race because their vessel is not deemed safe by competition management or players are not prepared that team will be required to forfeit its final spot.

6.4. Teams are required to abide by all competition safety rules at all times in order to continue in the competition.

6.5. Team vessels must be deemed safe to compete by competition management in order to compete in all heats and finals.

7. DRAW and CHANGES

7.1. Competition management may need to make changes to the draw and such notices will be relayed to team captains.

7.2. On successful completion of a heat, team captains are to check the race score board for the next draw.


8. FORFEITS

8.1. If a team cannot take the start point with the nominated team members and a safe vessel within five minutes of the race starting time that team will lose that race by forfeit.


9. DISCIPLINE

9.1. A competitor or team may be disciplined by competition management for an infringement or attempted infringement of the regulations and rules of the competition. Competition management has control over competitors during the course of a race.

9.2. A competitor or team who has been disciplined by competition management on more than two occasions may be ejected from the competition. Competition management may eject a team from a competition for unacceptable breaches of discipline or misconduct.


10. SCORE BOARD

10.1. The competition management will enter results on a race score board.

11. WAIVER

11.1. The Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce Dragon Boat Regatta is a fast-moving and energetic competition. Competitors participate at their own risk. Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce, Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group Inc. and Mount Isa Water accept no responsibility for injuries or damage to equipment or belongings sustained.


12. START TIMES
12.1. Competition to commence at 3:00pm. Pre-competition meeting will commence at 2:30pm. Heats will take approximately 20 minutes. The competition will consist of 4 heats then one final (subject to nomination numbers)

13. EQUIPMENT
13.1. Teams must provide their own dragon boats, safety equipment and additional items required for the competition. Motorised equipment is banned from the competition.

13.2. Dragon boats are to be of a race worthy condition (float and non-harmful) Boats are to homemade, prizes will be awarded to the most environmentally friendly entries.

13.3. All competitors are required to possess and utilise the compulsory safety equipment.

13.4. All competitors are responsible for cleaning up of personal equipment and debris (especially on water).


14. VENUE & FACILITIES
14.1. The Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce Dragon Boat Regatta will take place at Transport Bay at Lake Moondarra.

14.2. Food, beverage and bar facilities will be available at Transport Bay.


15. RESTRICTIONS

15.1. A nil tolerance will be applied for competitors showing intoxicated or inappropriate behavior.

15.2. Liquor Licensing Regulations prohibit pre-purchased alcohol to be bought to the Transport Bay Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce Dragon Boat Regatta. Alcohol is to be purchased and consumed in designated areas only.

15.3. Dragon boats made from contaminated, harmful or potentially dangerous material will not be accepted.


16. SAFETY

16.1. Sun safety measures are encouraged to be applied by all competitors

16.2. A qualified first aid officer and trained medical staff will be available at the venue on race day.

16.3. All competitors are required to wear life jackets.

17. COMPETITION RULES

17.1. Race to the Transport Bay net markers and back in the quickest time possible. Winners will be the first full team to make it back to shore without sinking.

17.2. Boats must remain afloat and in a seaworthy conditions to continue in the competition.

17.3. All nominated competitors must remain on the dragon boat throughout the race.

17.4. Winners from heats will advance to the final.

17.5. Competitors must abide by all competition regulations at all times.
