With the increased publicity surrounding climate change and the effects of the world’s carbon emissions more prevalent in recent months, the Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce jumped at the opportunity to again participate in the 2009 Green Week initiative.

Green Week was launched in 2008  to raise awareness within the business community of the environmental and economic benefits of being eco-efficient in the workplace. General information regarding green grants, rebates, and programmes provided and implemented by all levels of Government, business and industry was distributed to all members and throughout the local community in an effort to educate all on the ease and economical benefits of executing environmentally friendly practices on a daily basis.

In addition, businesses who registered to receive information regarding Green Week also participated in ‘ISA HOUR’ which is a free networking event on the final day of the week that invites businesess to ‘turn off’ as many  pieces of electronic equipment in the workplace as possible, whilst they enjoy afternoon tea at the Chamber. The networking function included an awards presentation for the winners of the Green Week competitions who had to submit an application on how their organisation was reducing their overall carbon foot print. The Department of Climate Change was the naming rights sponsor to this event and we look forward to working with them again in 2010.
